Project Summary

Scouten was engaged by IDL Projects to provide structural engineering support throughout the construction of the new Prince George Firehall #1. We worked with HCMA’s drawings to develop detailed designs.

Project Description

In October 2017, the City of Prince George approved the design and construction of a new fire hall to replace the ageing fire station located downtown. Using a design provided by HCMA Architects, construction for the new fire hall began in the spring of 2019 under the direction of IDL Projects Ltd.

During construction several design components of the project were the responsibility of the contractor. IDL enlisted Scouten Engineering to provide structural engineering support throughout the course of the project. One of the items we were requested to provide was the detailed design for all the cement masonry unit (CMU) block walls throughout the proposed building.

Our team of engineers and technologists worked with HCMA’s drawings to develop detailed designs for the over 4000 square feet of CMU walls throughout the building and the 60 feet tall tower. Some of the structural elements included filled cell locations, reinforcing steel, bond beams, lintels and reinforcing mesh.

In addition to the Masonry work, Scouten Engineering provided design support on the Nail Laminated Timber Stairs withing the tower, the security gates, and framing details for various parapet alterations.
