Project Summary

Scouten Engineering was contracted as part of a design-build team to develop an old soil stockpile yard into an accessible, user-friendly park by the City of Prince George. We helped to develop a wheelchair accessible trail system, road access, and a parking lot.

Project Description

The City of Prince George awarded a design-build contract to develop an old soil stockpile yard and local party spot into an accessible, user-friendly park. Scouten Engineering was part of the design-build team, alongside Datoff Bros Construction as the general contractor and Environmental Design Solutions (EDS) as the prime consultant. EDS provided an overall site layout for the park, including trail locations, picnic areas, lighting, and washroom facilities.

Scouten Engineering worked with EDS’s layout and with Datoff to develop a trail system that would remain wheelchair accessible with less than a 5% grade and relatively balanced to reduce imported material. In addition to the trail systems, Scouten designed road access and a parking lot to access the park. The parking lot incorporated a combination of catch basins and underground recharge chambers. The site conditions were quite granular and favourable for the use of Stormwater infiltration chambers.
