Project Summary

Scouten Engineering was contracted alongside Cheroff Thompson Architects North by the City of Prince George to design renovations to Masich Place Stadium, which included steel structure modification and a lintel design for a roll up door in a load-bearing CMU wall. Construction was completed by Dattoff Bros Construction.

Project Description

The City of Prince George was looking to make changes to the existing Masich Place stadium which has seen many renovations over the past decade including a refurbished walking track, track and field equipment and renovations to the bleachers. Wanting to make the stadium more user friendly, the city sought to provide an additional accessible seating area, revise the existing ramps and stair access, and a window opening in the cement masonry unit CMU wall for a concession area.

Scouten Engineering worked with fellow Prince George architectural firm Chernoff Thompson Architects North (CTAN) to design the requested alterations. For the additional accessible seating we provided structural designs to modify the existing steel structure under the bleachers to allow for a large horizontal viewing area to mirror the existing viewing area on the South end of the stadium. To increase ease of access CTAN provided a new ramp layout that Scouten used to provide the concrete foundation designs for proposed ramps on both the North end and the replacement ramp to the south.

In addition to the exterior changes made to the stadium, we provided a lintel design to create an opening for a new roll-up door in a load-bearing CMU wall. The lintel was designed using a large steel angle to support the remaining CMU blocks above allowing for a pass-through window for the newly developed concession area.

Currently, Prince George company, Dattoff Bros. Construction is hard at work finishing this project; we hope to see patrons enjoying the newly provided seating and concession this coming spring when we’re all able to leave our houses again.
