Project Summary

The City of Prince George contracted Scouten to design a retaining wall for infrastructure improvements to Henery Road in March 2019. We designed a mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) retaining wall, using block product and geogrid, complete with subgrade drainage, sidewalks, and guardrails.

Project Description

The Ministry of Transportation was upgrading a section of highway through Prince George from two lanes to four. The project affected a number of frontage roads throughout the area. The city took the opportunity to upgrade the stormwater infrastructure and sidewalks along Henery Road that were affected by the four-laning project.

During the design of the infrastructure improvements, it was made clear a retaining wall was required. The City of Prince George engaged Scouten Engineering through their Rotational Consultant List Program to design the retaining wall.

Scouten provided some preliminary options for the retaining wall design for consideration. The final design an MSE retaining wall, using Nilex’s MESA block product and Uniaxial Geogrid, complete with subgrade drainage, sidewalks, and guardrails.
