General Transportation Projects

Project Description

Acceleration lanes, on and off ramps, highway bridges, grade separators, abutments, substructures – we design those.

All bridge designs are in accordance with CAN/CSA-S6-00 Design of Highway Bridges specifications. We've designed bridges for loads of excess of 100 tons gross vehicular weight and spans of 15 meters to over 100 meters.

We perform bridge inspections, prepare detailed repair procedures and final certification. When our clients chose to upgrade and rehabilitate an existing structure we consider using Advanced Composite Materials (ACMs) in the repairs or strengthening. Scouten has direct experience in the use of carbon fibre reinforced polymer (FRP) composites to strengthen existing precast, prestressed concrete bridges.

Scouten has become a cable barrier expert in British Columbia, selected as the Engineer of Record on cable barrier projects to represent the interests of the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure.

Bridge contractors contact us to provide time and cost saving advice during the bid process and during construction. For one client, we developed bridge demolition procedures which involved sawing bridge decks at mid-span and dragging the decks back and away from underlying creeks.

One half of the bridge was removed in fourteen seconds. Demolition then took place OFF the river on dry ground, with no risk of environmental damage. Pile driving for replacement bridges commenced immediately, cutting weeks off the project schedule.
