Project Summary

Scouten Engineering was contracted by Huston Grant Adjusters to evaluate damage to a commercial building after a vehicle collision. Scouten evaluated the building and created a report of the damages and recommended repairs.

Project Description

It’s not always about the big projects at Scouten Engineering, in fact a large portion of the work Scouten does is smaller, including working with insurance adjusters like Huston Grant Adjusters when damages happen to insured buildings.

Damages can range anywhere from roof failures due to heavy snowfalls or failing foundations from water eroding away supporting material. In this case, a vehicle impacted one of the canopy support columns at a commercial building on Stuart Drive in Fort St. James. Huston Grant Adjustors asked Scouten to assess the damage and provide a report with a recommended repair plan. One of our engineers inspected the Damage in late February 2016, noting the impacted column had been sheared off its base and the stucco at the top of the canopy had cracked from the displacement of the column. Scouten provided Huston Grant with a report outlining the damage and procedures of how to repair them including anchor bolt details, shoring arrangements, and order of operations.

Once Scouten has submitted a report it is the responsibility of the adjuster to determine the eligibility of the insured and arrange for a contractor to carry out repairs as per the recommendations provided in the engineer’s report.
