Project Summary

Scouten was brought in as a sub-consultant to design structural elements for a project to divide existing space in the Fort St. James Community Care Facility into new tenant spaces. Construction commenced after the issuing of construction drawings in March 2019 and was completed in March 2020.

Project Description

In the late months of 2017, BGIS Work Place Solutions issued a tender on behalf of the Ministry of Citizen Services for tenant improvements at the Fort St. James Community Care Facility. A consultant team led by Chernoff Thompson Architects North was awarded the project to divide the existing space up for new tenant spaces.

Scouten Engineering was brought on as a sub-consultant to design any structural elements that came up throughout the project. Structural design commenced in June of 2018 to include new wall openings and the strengthening of existing beams to support newly proposed partition walls. Methods to support the existing cement masonry unit wall over top of a proposed opening included a combination of a supporting W-Flange and angles, secured in place with anchor rods. New load-bearing walls with structurally designed openings, using LVL headers and W-Flange Beams where needed, were used to partition the space. Under the new walls, existing beams were strengthened and secured with Steel channels and structural bolts respectively.
