Project Summary
Scouten was contracted by the District of Mackenzie to determine the feasibility of a proposed figure skating harness system and design new anchor lugs to be bolted onto the existing truss clips in the roof structure of the ice rink.
Project Description
In the final months of 2015, the District of Mackenzie was looking to install an anchor system for a figure skating harness in their ice rink. The Recreation Department had developed the concept internally, a simple combination of wire rope, shackles, turnbuckles, and pulleys. The district engaged Scouten Engineering to determine the feasibility of their concept and engineer some anchors for their proposed system.
Working with the District, Scouten developed a design for new anchor lugs that would be bolted onto the existing truss clips in the roof structure. We also determined a load limit for the proposed system and provided drawings to get the anchors fabricated. Now figure skaters, whether they’re training to pull off a salchow or a triple axel, can hook into the new figure skating harness at the Mackenzie Recreation Centre.
