As Canada's infrastructure ages, the need for
repair and rehabilitation of existing primary
infrastructure has increased. Bridges, overpasses,
parking garages, concrete reservoirs and other
structures require extensive rehabilitation to
protect public safety and the capital value of
the investment
Rehabilitation strategies are becoming increasingly
sophisticated and include the use of Advanced
Composite Materials (ACM's) in the repair
or strengthening of existing structures. Scouten & Associates
Engineering Ltd. has had direct experience in
the use of carbon fibre reinforced polymer (FRP)
composites to strengthen an existing precast,
prestressed concrete bridge, a parking structure
and other structures in the harsh environment
of northern British Columbia.
