Project: Replacement of Sanitary Sewer on CP Rail Bridge
Location: Castlegar, BC
Client: City of Castlegar
Services:

Scouten & Associates Engineering Ltd. joined with Stinger Welding Ltd. and CIF Construction Ltd. in a design / construct project, replacing a 35 year old sanitary sewer on the CP Rail Bridge over the Columbia River. The existing pipe posed a number of potential environmental hazards - the pipe contained an integral asbestos lining which had to be properly disposed. Severe corrosion of the existing corrugated metal pipe increased the risk that sanitary sewage could be discharged into the Columbia River during construction activities

An innovative installation technique was employed whereby the sewer pipe was incrementally jacked across the bridge on pre-installed hangers. The hangers were a simple arrangement of cantilevered steel beams and machined rollers, installed in such a way as to minimize disturbance of on-going railway traffic over the bridge.

Project: Mission Interchange and Roadworks
Location: Mission, BC
Client: Dillon Consulting Ltd. / BC Ministry of Transportation
Services:

Structural design coordinator, managing all administrative aspects of the project directly relevant to the design and construction of a grade separation and miscellaneous structures.

We provided detailed structural design and drafting for two significant transportation structures, including a precast, post-tensioned 'tub girder' bridge and a highly skewed, precast box stringer structure. Additional services included the preparation of cost estimates, bills of material, and technical specifications for all structural components of the project.

This project was a unique Public / Private partnership with funding provided by a private developer, the local municipality and the BC Ministry of Transportation. The schedule was extremely aggressive, and saw the facility fully open to traffic less than three months after the start of construction.
